At St. Mary's, we believe that developing writing skills is essential for our pupils' academic success and personal growth. We provide a rich and supportive environment where our pupils can explore and develop their writing abilities.

The key to developing writing skills is practice. Therefore, our teachers provide regular opportunities for our pupils to write in a variety of genres, including essays, poetry, creative writing, functional writing, and procedural writing.

We encourage our pupils to use their own voice when writing and to express their thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise manner. We also recognise the importance of drafting and redrafting, allowing our pupils to refine their writing skills and hone their craft.

Creative writing is a powerful tool for self-expression and personal growth. Our pupils are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to produce original and engaging pieces of writing.
Functional writing is also a key focus of our writing practice. We recognise the importance of developing the necessary competency in writing for real-world applications, such as letter writing, email writing, and report writing.

Procedural writing is another essential aspect of our writing practice. Our pupils are taught how to write clear and concise instructions and procedures, which are important skills that can be applied in many different contexts.
