Cuirim fáilte uí Cheallaigh romhaibh !

A Chairde,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our school website.
St. Mary's has been a seat of learning for the boys of Monaghan Town and its hinterland since our foundation in 1867. We are a senior boys' school with classes from second to sixth. We also have two special classes for pupils with developmental language disorder / speech sound disorder (DLD/SSD) and two autism classes (ASD) (primary). Our first special class was established in 1994, our second in 2010 and our autism class (primary) in September 2024. We accept boys and girls into our special classes, many boys and girls begin their educational journey in junior infants in St. Mary's DLD/SSD classes, before transferring back to their local school.
We are committed to providing excellent education, support and care to all of our pupils. We aim to guide and help all pupils to reach their full potential, both academically and personally. To this end, we prioritise learning, well-being and extracurricular activities. We also aim to provide state-of-the-art facilities and to create a vibrant learning environment.
Past pupils from St. Mary's are in all walks of life at home in Ireland and worldwide. Many returned to Monaghan to celebrate our 150th birthday in 2017.
Since the turn of the century, we have had the pleasure of welcoming boys from all around the world to Scoil Mhuire to greatly enrich our school community. With an A to Z of pupils from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe our classrooms have a truly global outlook !
I invite you to explore our website and learn more about the St. Mary's school community.
Le gach dea-ghuí,
Colm Mac Cinna
Principal
A Diocesan School for Clogher was established on St. Mary's Hill in 1826. The Christian Brothers purchased the site in 1902 and moved from Lakeview to the hill. They established the first Agricultural School in Ireland on the site. St. Mary's, Our School, Our Story
